So put yourself in the way
of the poem. It needed your willing
impediment to be written. Remember the lily, growing through
the heart of the corpse?
You had to be willing to let it through the sunshine
error of your life,
be willing not to finish it–
—Brenda Hillman, from The Death Tractates
Wow, Molly, thanks for this. I love this book and was just mentioning it to a friend the other day, but I not remembered the phrase “sunshine error.” It stopped me in my tracks this morning.
Yeah that’s a stop-in-one’s-tracks kind of line, isn’t it. Glad to be part of your Sunday morning :). Have a good week.
